Cable and XForce #18 eBook Dennis Hallum Angel Unzueta Ramon Perez Reviews
Great ending to the series
Overall this collection is more of the same typical X-Men tropes Forge’s psyche can’t contain the demonic Adversary; Stryfe pops up yet again to test and turmoil the heroes; Bishop is a jerk; and Cable plays daddy whose powers are on the blink as Hope learns more about her own powers. Oh, yeah. And when X-Force runs into the X-Men they can’t play nice and have to have their misunderstandings. Despite their having mixed with each other, saved each other, loved and hated each other a thousand million times over. Really? The best this ends up getting for me is Boom Boom’s cockney speak and her (very brief) interactions with Puck. Pretty average stuff. 2.75 stars.
It is really hard to judge this comic; the art is not as good as previously, but it is certainly good enough. The story has barely started for this meeting of the two series and what they have done so far has seemed sensible enough. Therefore this is a completely neutral review. In a few weeks time I will have seen the series and will be able to tell how good it has been overall, but at the moment I will only be able to judge this book in retrospect. What I will say is that this is not a book to pick up if you have not been reading at least one of the two series. There are so many questions that this will raise and you will probably end up buying half the back issues just to understand what is going on. However if you have been reading them (and if not, why on earth not?) then you will need to pick this up just to see how they close out the two storylines.
This was a decent way to end this series, though I'd only recommend it if you really enjoy the characters featured here. Coincidentally, I picked this up shortly after I read the original Adversary story in Fall of the Mutants from way back in the '80s, so I had the background needed to understand the first half of this volume.
The second half has Hope revisiting some ghosts of her past, as she goes head-to-head with Stryfe and Bishop as the rest of Cable's X-Force team comes into a confrontation with Storm's Uncanny X-Force team. The full crossover is contained here as both titles ended after this and a new X-Force title started up.
If you've come this far in the series and enjoyed it, it's worth completing the set with this one. I don't know if I would have kept buying this series for much longer, but I feel like this was just the right length for a fun run with some of my favorite characters from the X-Men universe.
This is a very good series, good developments of several characters, most notably cable with his foster daughter hope, nemesis and forge were awesome, only one I think was written poorly was domino, felt her character was off and very shallow, but that is typical normal marvel female heroes, colossus was ok, but kinda dragged down by the the domino storyline. Liked the developments with x force versus' shield and X-Men. Very good tension. Good humor as well.
Awesome story. A lot of content packed into a short read. If you haven't read the prior ones go back!! Hella dope.
