Kayla Maxwell is eager to shed her slasher-flick bimbo image—and she plans to do just that in her new role on daytime's most popular soap. With a chance to showcase her dramatic range, Kayla will be able to wash away the lingering betrayal and public humiliation left by her controlling, philandering ex-boyfriend.

Sean Barrett, the son of an influential, award-winning actor, is the hottest soap star in the country. Paired on-screen with the talented and beautiful Kayla Maxwell, Sean is determined to keep her at arm's length, burned before by fame-seeking actresses who had no qualms about using him to get to his famous father.

But when Kayla receives threatening letters, her past as a scream queen seems to be coming back to haunt her. Succumbing to an attraction neither one of them can deny, Sean and Kayla must face down her stalker and their own personal demons before trusting what they both feel—a love that lasts long after the cameras stop rolling.

Wow Alison. I had no idea you were a writer. Even though this isn't the type of books I usually read, I read them when I saw you were the author. I read all five books of the Feeling the Heat series. I really enjoyed them and stayed up too late some nights because I didn't want to put the book down. I never got bored and you kept me entertained from beginning to end. I usually read books that are between 300-500 pages, so these were the perfect length. Even though my grammar and spelling are not the best, I get irritated when I read a published book with lots of mistakes. In all 5 books I don't recall seeing one mistake. I look forward to reading more books from you. I have recommended the books to my mother to read also.

Love in the Afternoon Feeling the Heat Book 1 edition by Alison Packard Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I was very surprised I enjoyed it so much. The character development and character interaction are well done. I was happy with the purchase and bought the next one in the series.
I normally read historic romances, but was talked into reading this book. I really did enjoy it, especially as a longtime soap opera fan. The story had just the right amount of conflict, romance, and I actually was surprised at the end. I'm really interested to read the next book and the next by Ms. Packard.
I really liked this book. For a debut novel, it was amazing. I enjoyed BOTH the plots. I was equally as invested in Jared and Shay as I was in Sean and Kayla. This was an interesting story told well. It was predictable and at times cliched, but it was never boring. To me, a book that keeps me up reading way past my bedtime is a good book. And this book did that. I look forward to Ms. Packard's next book. I'm definitely going to preorder, as I did w/ this one. I can't wait to read it!
This book was a nice light read and much like watching soap operas it was the perfect guilty pleasure book. It was a fun, sexy read with a little bit of drama and suspense thrown in. It was a little predictable in parts and felt just a bit rushed at the end, but overall I really enjoyed this book. I used to watch soap operas for many years so it was cool to read about two soap stars and all the crazy stuff that goes on behind the scenes and in the life of a soap star. I thought it was a neat idea to have each chapter start with a snippet of what was going on between Kayla and Sean’s soap characters so we sort of had that little story to follow as well as the actual story between Kayla and Sean. Reading this book brought back many fond memories of the soaps I used to watch and love.

I thought the characters were very likeable, Kayla was a great heroine. She was kind and real which is an uncommon thing in Hollywood so it wasn’t hard to see why she would catch Sean’s attention. I really liked Sean too, he was the big star of the soap for many years now so it would have been very easy for him to have an ego to match but he was very down to earth and I loved the chemistry between the two. I thought their relationship was well paced and I liked how it was a slow burn and not just insta-love or jumping straight in the sack. It was very believable and they even had a few disagreements/arguments that were also very believable. Each having been burned in the past from dating another actor/actress they were both reluctant to jump into another relationship with someone in the business. So they each had a few hang-ups to get over but it wasn’t overly angsty or dramatic, which was nice for a change.

Like I said earlier, there was also a bit of danger/suspense thrown into the mix too, and while I had it mainly figured out by the time of the reveal I still thought it was well done. There were also several secondary characters that I liked and am intrigued by. We also got the set up for the next book with Kelly and Matt and I am very interested to see what their story is, we got a few hints but no real info and after their disastrous first meeting I can tell that’ll be a fun one to read!

This was a fun summer read and if you’re looking for something light and fun to read, I think this might fit the bill!
The first book in Alison Packard's new series starts off with soap actors Sean and Kayla. Kayla is relatively new to the soap A New Dawn and her character Shay, is being hooked up with resident hunk Jared, played by Hollywood heartthrob Sean. Unfortunately, jealousies abound both on the set and off. Kayla is being stalked by what she thinks is a crazy fan who is upset with her for replacing Jared's former love interest. The actress who thought she was going to replace the love interest is incredibly jealous and makes snide comments to Kayla whenever they are in the same room.
Unfortunately for Kayla, she also thinks her ex-boyfriend is still keeping tabs on her.
Sean Barrett is the son of John Barrett, Oscar winning actor and close, personal friend of Steven Spielberg. John is upset that his son is wasting his talent on a soap opera and tries to get him to move on to other, better work. Because of past histories between the pair (that is hinted at but isn't revealed until the end of the story), Sean wants nothing to do with his father. He also refuses to date other actresses because they use him as a jumping off point to get to his dad to better their careers.
When Sean and Kayla's onscreen chemistry plays even better offscreen, both are nervous to start a relationship. Sean because he's afraid Kayla will use him to get to her father, and Kayla because her ex kept belittling her talent. He made her doubt her abilities, and he was incredibly jealous of any attention she received that he didn't.
What I liked about this story was the stalker storyline kept me turning pages and the ultimate climax had me holding my breath. While I pretty much knew who the stalker was, I still enjoyed the frenetic energy of catching the stalker in time. I also loved the slow build up of Sean and Kayla's relationship. What I didn't like, and I have come to hate from Ms. Packard, is the incredibly slow build up, then the rush of the relationship, then comes a "misunderstanding" that tears the couples apart, only to have them realize that they are meant for each other, and then the book ends. While this story is continued in all 4 remaining books in the series, Kayla and Sean take a very minor role.
